Unit 5
What advice would you give parents of adolescents?
Education
Education plays a major part in a person’s life, but how do parents make a soon-to-be adolescence aware of this? It is important for soon-to-be adolescence to finish high school. Some advice to tell your adolescent is that without high school it will be very difficult to find a job. A job is what keeps a person on their feet. It provides them with a way to make money. And as we all know money is what everyone needs to survive. If a person does not finish high school it is very likely they will get nowhere in life. So remind your adolescent to take the first step in success and finish high school.
Another step in adolescents and education is college. Not everyone has to go to college, but it furthers a person’s education, which also helps them get a better job and career. If you want your adolescent to go to college some advice would be to not push your adolescent into college. Simply state that they need to go for a year or semester to “try it out” and then they can decide if they want to drop or not. You as a parent have to determine what is important to you for your adolescent and then take the steps to help them out. They may not want your advice, but as a parent you need to give it.
Communication
A piece of advie that I would give parents of adolescents would be..................
how to learn to communicate. Not only do you have to learn how to community with in the family, it is also important to learn how to communicate outside in the real world. To be able to communicate you have to be respectful of others and learn to listen. This will get adolescents far because they are usually very "bratty like" and want everything their way or the high way! Communication comes in handy in the work place and even at school. When the adolescent doesn't understan an instructor you have to learn the right way to communicat with the instructor and find a way to understand it.
Curfew
-It is always good to have a curfew on children as they grow up.
with that being said this curfew must become flexible with age.
there's always those parents that maintain strict curfews all the way until their kids leave the house.
-This only causes the adolescents to rebel
-My parentys had a curfew of 11o'clock until I was about 16 or 17 tgen if I wanted to stay out later all I had to do was call and let them know what I was doing, where i was, who i was with and how much longer I would be out.
-I thought this was a pretty fair curfew.
-Its always good to explain to your children why you have the curfew that you do.
-Explain that you have set the curfew the way you have becasue you don't want them out gettin in trouble and doing things they shouldn't be late at night.
-If it very important to let your adolesent gain more and more freedom as they get older
-This shows that you have trust in them and in the end will strengthen your relationship
